House Rules

InChambers is an anonymous back channel for the resources industry. These rules keep the chatter sharp, useful, and out of trouble.

"Industry whispers, not headlines."

1

What This Is

InChambers is a space for industry gossip, observations, and insider commentary across the Australian resources sector.

Posts may include rumours, speculation, and personal experiences

Nothing here should be taken as verified fact

Treat everything as conversation, not reporting

2

Be Sharp, Not Cruel

Strong opinions are fine. Personal attacks are not.

  • Critique behaviour, decisions, or industry patterns
  • Avoid abusive, threatening, or demeaning language
  • If your post is just insulting someone, it will be removed

👉 The best gossip is specific and insightful, not just hostile.

3

Naming People & Companies

You can discuss real people and organisations—but do it properly.

  • Avoid stating serious allegations as established fact
  • Frame claims as observations, experiences, or widely-circulating rumours

"There's been talk that X firm is struggling to retain staff on remote projects"

"X firm is breaching employment law"

"He has a reputation for being difficult in negotiations"

"He is acting unlawfully in negotiations"

👉 If you wouldn't say it in a room of peers, rethink how you've phrased it.

4

No Confidential Material

Do not post material that clearly comes from protected sources.

This includes:

  • Legal advice or privileged communications
  • Internal documents, emails, or drafts
  • Live negotiation details (including those under the Native Title Act 1993 framework)

You can discuss experiences and outcomes, but not leak the underlying material.

5

Cultural Respect

This forum includes discussion involving Traditional Owners and Aboriginal corporations.

  • No racism, sexism, or discriminatory content
  • No disrespect toward culture, heritage, or community governance
  • Avoid uninformed speculation about internal community matters
6

Stay Within the Industry

Content should relate to:

Mining and resources

Native title and land access

Heritage and environmental processes

Legal and commercial practice

If it doesn't connect to the industry, it doesn't belong here.

7

No Promotion or Agenda Posting

  • No advertising or self-promotion
  • No posting on behalf of a firm, company, or campaign
  • No coordinated messaging or "reputation management" posts

👉 This is for gossip, not spin.

8

No Spam or Noise

  • Avoid low-effort or repetitive posts
  • Add context or substance—"what's the story?"
  • One-line throwaways may be removed
9

Anonymity is Protected

  • Do not attempt to identify other users
  • Do not share personal or identifying information
  • Do not speculate about who is behind a post
10

Moderation Approach

Moderation is light-touch but active.

Posts may be edited or removed if they:

  • Cross into direct accusations presented as fact
  • Contain identifiable confidential material
  • Are purely abusive or non-constructive

Repeat offenders may be restricted or removed.

11

How to Post Well

(Read This Before Posting)

Good posts

  • Describe a situation or pattern
  • Provide context (region, project type, role)
  • Invite others to share similar experiences

Weak posts

  • Make blunt accusations
  • Name individuals without context
  • Add nothing beyond insult

👉 Think: "industry insight with an edge", not "anonymous hit piece."
